Here is a lovely way to spend late Summer evenings in the beautiful Hunter Valley.
Gartelmann Wines will be opening to 6pm every Friday and Saturday in February for twilight tastings.
You will often find owners Jan and Jorg Gartelmann in the cellar door answering questions and happily sharing their wine knowledge with customers.
Gartelmann Wines specialise in fine hand-crafted wines using grapes sourced from the Lower and Upper Hunter Valley, Mudgee, Rylstone, and Orange regions of NSW. With the aim to make only top quality wines from the 39 acres of vines, Jorg commenced making a limited amount of wine under the Gartelmann label in 1997 before moving into full production in 1998 – specialising in the classic Hunter Valley varieties of Semillon and Shiraz for which they have won multiple awards.
Jorg Gartelmann says: “My wine philosophy is simple: I only produce wines that I would like to drink – and that means immediately approachable and with balance.”
The cellar door is easy to find – just look for the big magpie on the side of the modern Australian-styled building on Lovedale Road. There is a large open deck overlooking the dam – a lovely, peaceful spot for the twilight tastings at Gartelmann Wines and sharing a cheese platter on a sultry summer’s evening. A perfect way to end your day!
The Deck Cafe is on-site and is open 7 days for breakfast and Lunch, wander over from the cellar door and have lunch and coffee or lunch and a Gartelmann wine.
